About Syomyoji Temple

Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama (the "Buddha") in India about two thounsand five hundred years ago.

After that, it was transmitted to Japan via China and many Buddhism sects were born here in Japan.

We spread the one of them, Jodo-Shinshu [True Pure Land] sect.

Shinran Shonin(holy man) founded it at Kamakura period(1185-1333).

We treasure Namu Amida Butsu, which is an invocation(Nembutsu) to Amida Buddha.

Namu Amida Butsu means to commit ourselves to Amida Buddha.

What does to commit ourselves mean ? - It is continuously to listen to the Buddha's wish for saving everyone.

People are saved by touching the Buddha's wide and deep mercy, and sometimes we know about ourselves deeply.

Our service

We serve funerals, Houji(buddhist memorial service) and retated religious affairs.

We offer our ossuary and provide advice about tomb.

You are welcomed to worship Amida-buddha at the main hall of our temple.
